Is everyone getting excited for conference season? I know I am! American Telehealth Association kicks off next week, with ViVE and HIMSS shortly after. I personally won’t be at ATA this year but noticed this interesting article on their opposition to the new DEA proposed online Rx rule (HITNews). That being said you will be able to find me at ViVE and HIMSS. Email me at a.schultheis@incisive-consultants.com if you are interested in meeting up!
The Amazon acquisition took over headlines in the second half of February, but we still had some good news on how technology is impacting patient care today. University Hospitals talks through their chatbot utilization outside of the pandemic, and something I personally thought was awesome is Harris Health System’s new EHR use case.
They set up a chatbot in the pandemic to aid their patient population as a public-facing symptom checker (no authentication needed), but they have been using it to help with chronic disease since 2019. More than 2,000 patients have used the tool for chronic disease and more than 100,000 used it as a starting point for COVID symptoms. It will be interesting to see how they continue to expand this, especially with their key advice being that the care team is still the key to utilizing the bot.

Going to state this again, but I personally found this article so fascinating. These types of innovations for care delivery to unique cases is what Digital Health is all about – better care for all patients. I have helped create workflows for school nurses, lawyers, Physical Therapists, and more – but expanding to an entirely new space, a jail, is so much more interesting.
It’s a quick read, and I cannot recommend it enough to any role that helping increase their patient population and care programs. Check this article out at Epicshare.org
Becker’s asked a handful of Officer’s from health systems their thoughts on One Medical being acquired by Amazon. This article has links to a handful of others that give more information on the deal, but I thought it was interesting on how these leaders are for this new model coming to healthcare. Stating the positive’s Amazon will bring to the consumer experience and Mike Anderes, Chief Digital Officer of Froedtert Health, stated this will be “a good thing” for consumers over time.
Although this isn’t a cool new technology or bleeding edge program, it is going to change the landscape of care delivery and I felt I needed to have it in this month’s Digital Health Download
